St. Stephen’s Pig Roast – Knights of Columbus Beer Booth

On August 4th, council 953 served beer to thirsty pig roast participants. John, Fred, Lewis, Terry, and Alex slacked the thirst of many while Brother Jerry took a more hands on approach. Arriving early, he helped break down the freshly roasted pigs into more manageable bites with the other men from St. Stephen’s. His presence was unknown to me until I came into the classroom where they were working. The knife-wielding men were happy to see the pitcher of beer I brought for their consumption. Besides serving beer and pork, Terry joined in on the fun by participating in the White Elephant booth across the lawn. He was the proud winner of a large jar of jelly beans, yet the real winner that day was St. Stephens when we handed over more than $100 in tips. This goes to show that fraternity, community, and charity can be fun. Especially handing out over sized beers to those lucky Brother Knights. Thank you one and all.

Preventative Health Event
We are pleased to offer a preventive health event at our hall. Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, will host their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings on 10/2/2013. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit http://www.lifelinescreening.com/community-partners.
Culture of Life Report for September 2013
September 25 marks the beginning of the fall 40 Days for Life campaign. This is an opportunity for us to join together with folks from across the country in prayer, fasting, and witnessing in the fight to bring an end to abortion.
Bishop Soto will celebrate the 40 Days for Life Opening Mass on Monday, September 23, at 6:00 pm at St.
Philomene Parish, 2428 Bell Street. The Holy Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 pm, immediately before the mass.
The daily vigil will be held on the sidewalk in front of Women’s Health Specialists, the abortion business that has moved from its Wright Street location to 1442 Ethan Way, at the corner of Hallmark Drive. We are asking you to sign up to participate during this important period of spiritual battle to save the innocent unborn.
For more information on how to be involved in this campaign, contact pro-life director Alex Kachmar, or visit http://40daysforlife.com/sacramento
What If?
If you knew that today was the last chance you would ever have to buy life insurance, how much would you buy?
If you had a money-making machine, that once broken could never be repaired, how much would you insure it for?
If you knew that today was the last time you would have the opportunity to guarantee your family an income if something happened to you, how much would you give them?
If you knew that today marked the end of your ability to buy future retirement security, how much would
you buy?
Isn’t it safe to say that you would put some additional dollars into more life insurance protection that could
be used for family or retirement benefits? Chances are that you will be around for a long time, but life is full
of “ifs” and surprises, isn’t it?
Let me help you plan for your family’s protection. Let’s get together as soon as possible .
Brotherly yours,
