Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Hello SKs and Brothers,
Today is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is the patroness of our Chaplain’s parish. (If you ever wondered why St Mary’s Parish Festival is held in the middle of August, (8/20/22 this weekend) it is so it could be on or near to this feast day.)
For a 2022 video on this occasion, please watch here:

Almighty ever-living God, who assumed the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Mother of your Son, body and soul into heavenly glory, grant we pray, that, always attentive to the things that are above, we may merit to be sharers of her glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Blessings,
SK & Brother Marco Ferrero Knights of Columbus Sacramento Council 953

Celebrating The Feast Day of Blessed Fr McGivney

Hello SKs and Brothers,
On his feast day, pray for the intercession of Blessed Michael McGivney:
Official Feast Day in the Catholic Church of Blessed Father Michael McGivney, patron and found of the Knights of Columbus. The feast is celebrated annual on August 13th across the universal Catholic Church. Bl. Fr. McGivney was born on August 12, 1852 and passed away on August 14, 1890 (aged 38). His feast day is celebrated on the 13th because it falls between these two dates. Bl. Fr. McGivney was Beatified on October 31, 2020 at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford, Connecticut by Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin (on behalf of Pope Francis). This Cathedral is the Diocese Seat for the Bl. Fr. McGivney’s shrine that also was the final parish church he served at during his life as a Priest and also where he founded the Knights (Church of Saint Mary in New Haven, Connecticut). His Eminence Joseph W. Tobin was the American prelate of the Catholic Church at this time.
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request).
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Blessed Michael McGivney, pray for us!
Vivat Jesus!

Grand Knight’s Message July 2022

Worthy SKs and Fellow Brothers,

It is an honor to share the following official announcement:

LOCAL KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 953 RECEIVES TOP AWARD

Sacramento Knights of Columbus Council 953 has received the distinction of Star Council, the international organization’s top award for local councils.

The Star Council Award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership, promotion of

fraternal insurance benefits, sponsorship of faith formation programs and service-oriented activities.

During this challenging year, Council 953 adapted and continued to stand in the breach, serving our brothers, families, parishes, and communities. The Supreme Council recognizes these achievements and acknowledge the hard work of the brother knights under Council 953.

Throughout the 2021-2022 year, Council 953 has worked diligently to achieve STAR Award under the Spiritual guidance of their Chaplain Father Davy of St. Mary’s Parish.

Some of the Council’s highlights of the Columbian Year include ProLife Fundraisers, March for Life, Novenas, Intellectual Disability, RSVP for Seminarians, Habitat for Humanity, Vocation Dinner assistance, Veterans Benefit Dinner, Sacramental Gifts, Family of the Month, Sacred Heart Altar Society Cookie Drive, Bishop Gallegos Home Gift Drive and Prayers in The Pew to name just a few!

Our council’s award plaque will be shipped to our Worthy District Deputy Mike Amparan for a later presentation.

For information on joining the Sacramento Knights of Columbus contact local Membership Director Bob Willett at (916) 485-7939 or bob@sacramentohomes.net.

As our New Columbian Year has just began, we started the month of July with our PGK/Ol Timer’s Dinner and Installation with our Chaplain Father Davy in attendance with new Pastor to Sacred Heart, Father Richards.  We celebrate our Knight of the Month Devin Rodgers and Family of the Month Ricardo Saldana who’s wife Monica was the First Lady honored to lead a Chapter Rosary in it’s history! The donation check from the last Cookie Drive was made out to the Sacred Heart Altar Society and delivered by our ProLife Director Al Fernandez.  We also presented Bishop Soto with our annual donation to the Bishop’s Fund during the State Chapter Dinner in Vallejo.

I also wanted to take this moment to say thank you to our Brother Steve Mills who has served for years as our Hall President and to congratulate our new incoming Hall President Brother Tom Nulk!

Thank you Brothers for your continued inspiration and work in the name of our Lord as Catholic Men! May we continue to make proud our past Brother Knights and continue on the legacy began by our founding Council of 1905!

Marco Ferrero, Grand Knight
