Fwd: NorCal Chapter Retreat at 953/Vocational Dinner Update

Hello SKs and Fellow Brothers,
As we wrap up the final month of the Columbian Year knowing we have made STAR Council, 953 still keeps moving forward full steam!
I have submitted for the New Columbian Year our 365 report of Program Directors and sent our FS the completed 185 for new officers to be signed and submitted before the month’s deadline. We are once again on track to meet reporting requirements as we did for 2021-2022! We also have a new Brother Knight looking to join 953 which we will vote upon in July!
Thank you for those that volunteered to assist our Chaplin Father Davy this month with both the Rectory work, The Corpus Christi Procession and last weekend’s Masses as greeters.
We also held NorCal’s Chapter DD retreat on the 18th and received some wonderful compliments from our Worthy Elect CP, the DDs to also Father Memo. With great success we could not have pulled it off without Brother Richard helping with setup the night before and Brother Devin who volunteered all morning and afternoon while your GK prepared the meals. We also had Brother Matt assist with the plating which help us get the plates served personally all out at the same time.
After the retreat was over, many of the guests had to change at the hall and rush over to the Vocational Benefit in Elk Grove.
I am happy to share the Vocations Event was sold out and was a great success. 953 sponsored 2021 and helped cochair 2022 with SK George Bagley who was recognized with an award for all his years of service to this wonderful event to benefit our Seminarians.
Please remember to RSVP SK Ricardo as soon as possible for our PGK Dinner on July 14th!
Vivat Jesus!

Immaculate Heart of Mary/St Mary’s & Sacred Heart Updates

Hello SKs and Fellow Brothers,
Today as we celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I would like to thank Brothers Ricardo, Miguel and Bryan for being able to last moment assist our Chaplin Father Davy. We were able to get much of the furniture moved back into their rooms with great care as the Rectory was undergoing painting and new wood floors. We are happy to say Father Davy is back in his home!
Sacred Heart Update: Monsignor Walton’s last Mass will be Thursday, June 30th, at 8:00 am. Monsignor’s last Sunday’s Masses will be on June 26th.
Thank you Brother Al Fernandez who has picked up a card which will be from all of us at 953! We will also have a very nice bottle of wine as a retirement gift from our Council.
The attention of Christians was early attracted by the love and virtues of the Heart of Mary. The Gospel itself invited this attention with exquisite discretion and delicacy. What was first excited was compassion for the Virgin Mother. It was, so to speak, at the foot of the Cross that the Christian heart first made the acquaintance of the Heart of Mary. Simeon’s prophecy paved the way and furnished the devotion with one of its favourite formulae and most popular representations: the heart pierced with a sword. But Mary was not merely passive at the foot of the Cross; “she cooperated through charity”, as St. Augustine says, “in the work of our redemption”.
In the midst of the second world war Pope Pius XII put the whole world under the special protection of our Savior’s Mother by consecrating it to her Immaculate Heart, and in 1944 he decreed that in the future the whole Church should celebrate the *Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.* This is not a new devotion. In the seventeenth century, St. John Eudes preached it together with that of the Sacred Heart; in the nineteenth century, Pius VII and Pius IX allowed several churches to celebrate a feast of the Pure Heart of Mary. Pius XII instituted today’s feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for the whole Church, so as to obtain by her intercession “peace among nations, freedom for the Church, the conversion of sinners, the love of purity and the practice of virtue” (Decree of May 4, 1944).

Saint of The Day: St Joseph Cafasso/Dinner Flyer

Hello SKs and Brothers,
Today we celebrate St Joseph Cafasso.
*Saint Joseph Cafasso’s story*
Even as a young man, Joseph loved to attend Mass and was known for his humility and fervor in prayer. After his ordination, he was assigned to a seminary in Turin. There he worked especially against the spirit of Jansenism—an excessive preoccupation with sin and damnation. He used the works of Saint Francis de Sales and Saint Alphonsus Liguori to moderate the rigorism popular at the seminary.
Joseph recommended membership in the Secular Franciscan Order to priests. He urged devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and encouraged daily Communion. In addition to his teaching duties, Joseph was an excellent preacher, confessor, and retreat master. Noted for his work with condemned prisoners, he helped many of them die at peace with God.
Joseph urged one of his former pupils—Saint John Bosco—to establish the Salesians congregation to work with the youth of Turin. Joseph Cafasso died in 1860, and was canonized in 1947. His liturgical feast is celebrated on June 23.
*Reflection*
Devotion to the Eucharist gave energy to all Joseph’s other activities. Long prayer before the Blessed Sacrament has been characteristic of many Catholics who have lived out the gospel well: Saint Francis, Bishop Fulton Sheen, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, and Saint Teresa of Calcutta among them.
*Saint Joseph Cafasso is the Patron Saint of:*
