Basketball Free-throw Contest Results
Council 953 again this year conducted the basketball free throw contest at three area schools: St. Marys, Sacred Heart and Holy Spirit. The total students that participated was 290 this year. These are boys and girls ages 10-14. It took a few hours at each school to go through all of these students. I really appreciate the Brother Knights that volunteered this year to help run the events, especially since I was hobbled quite a bit by a broken left foot. The helpers were: Dick Cutting, Floyd Wells, Ricardo Saldana, Steve Mills. I feel like I am leaving someone out, so please accept my thanks and apology if I have. We will do it again next year.

Sacramento Life Center Baby Bottle fundraiser
Thanks to all our council brothers who donated to this annual fundraiser at the April business meeting. Due to your generosity we raised $52.00 that will be donated to the Sacramento Life Center.
40 Days for Life – A few final stats
As reported by the national 40 Days for Life coordinators here are the final (and amazing) stats on the recently concluded Spring campaign:
* 100,000+ participants from 4,000+ churches
* Campaigns were held in 261 cities across the U.S., Canada, Australia, England, Ireland, Poland and Spain
* 8 abortion workers quit their jobs
* 883 babies were spared from abortion during this campaign, bringing the cumulative total of lives saved to almost 6,000 since 40 Days for Life began four and a half years ago (5,928 to be precise!)
Religious Liberty / Health Care Mandate
Brothers and families, it is imperative that we continue to communicate to our elected representatives that the HHS mandate is a case of the government overstepping its bounds. This must be communicated time and again even when we are certain our elected officials disagree with us. Also, your support of religious freedom in the form of letters to the editors, comments to news articles and internet forums are helpful too.
Don’t give up this fight. And if you’re still on the sidelines, it is time to get in the game. Go to http://usccb.org/issues-and-action/religious-liberty/ and www.stophhs.com for info and the latest updates. But very importantly, we must pray. Pray for God’s will to be done in this case. Pray that he send his grace that brings liberty and justice for all.

Fraternal Year Ending — Star Council Award Goals
Now is the time to be looking and taking stock of attaining your council’s coveted Star Council Award Goals. The June 30, 2012 deadline is coming very soon. I will help you in any way I can to meet those goals for the 2011-2012 Fraternal Year. I’m currently committed to helping on the insurance side, but I’ll be glad to help on the membership side as well.
If you know an eligible Catholic man who might be interested in joining the Order (and who among us doesn’t), he’s probably just waiting to be asked. I can help you either by approaching him myself, or by “coaching” you – transferring sales skills that you can use to recruit him and other prospects. As always, I’m at your service.
Let’s continue our momentum in attaining those goals and objectives that are so critical to the growth of your council : Recruitment, Insurance Members, and Council Activities.
With all of us working together – our fraternal leaders and our professional insurance force, we can help the Order’s continued growth and obtain the coveted Star Council Award !!!

Much thanks to my fellow knights whom helped this weekend for our 5th Annual yard sale: First and foremost Steve Mills. I could NOT do this without your help and many hours spent at the hall, THANK YOU! Next, David Carboni Your polish dogs were a BIG hit again this year and I REALLY appreciate all the support you have given to this cause, especially since Bonnie has been under the weather, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Next George Mills, Bill, Rudy Nagel and Darin Hunter (our newest Knight) thanks SO MUCH for not only putting in hours during the sale, but for helping with Friday night set-up too! Much thanks to my other Friday night set-up men of Bill and Frank. You two plus Darin and George stayed so late I could not have finished as early as I did, THANKS SO MUCH!!! Next to Al, thanks for bringing the piano. That extra $$ made for a lot less dismal weekend. John Sheldon, thanks SO MUCH with the Sunday night cleanup and thanks to you and your mom for the MANY donations!!! Also thanks to Alex Kachmar for helping to pack up the items not sold.
