Culture of Life Report August 2015

Brother Knights,

On July 12th Adam Struck and I arrived at the Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home and met with Lenore Mullarkey, the Director, at which time we presented her with the proceeds from the Pasta for Life Dinner – a check in the amount of $1,500.

A grateful Lenore gave us a tour of the Home and explained how the Home is really a product of the love, dedication, and personal commitment of so many Catholics. Her voice expressed the hope that this commitment will continue. She asked if Adam and I would convey to all of you the need the Home has for dedicated individuals, who can give their efforts to the Home.

If any of my fellow Knights have special skills, and the desire to perform good works, could you please let me know?

The maternity home needs, from time to time, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, roofers, painters, and tile setters. I am compiling a list for the Home.

Please let me know if you have the necessary skills and are available when the need arises.

I can be reached at: 916.205.5047 or garciazemail@gmail.com

Please take a moment to reflect on the following:

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (James 2:14)

Brother Knights, let us continue with our good works!

God Bless,

Pro Life Director Hector Garcia and Pasta-4-Life dinner chair Adam Struck recently presented checks to both charities. Culture of Life Report July 2015

Brother Knights,

Nothing is more needful today than the survival of a culture of life, because this culture has become side stepped; indeed relegated to the back of the bus. At this moment in the Church’s history in this country it is less urgent to convince the alternative culture in which we live of the truth of the culture of life than it is for us as Knights to tell our members our own story and to nurture our own culture of life.

For those with eyes to see, it is obvious that we must support right to life activities. If we take this action together as Knights, we will keep the light of faith burning through the surrounding cultural darkness.

Culture of Life Report May 2015

Brother Knights,

How many of you have pulled out your Knights of Columbus membership card and asked “In what ways has this card helped me serve the Lord?” Do you feel that the Lord calls you to do good acts? Are you looking for ways to heed the Lord’s call to action?

I urge you to consider working on right to life activities as a member of our Council. Please consider that working for the culture of life will strengthen our community, our Council and our Church. For isn’t it true that we believe that human life is sacred and inviolable, and ought to be defended with maximum determination?

Our starting point must be the Dignity of the Human Person. From the very beginning of creation, the human person was set apart from the rest of created reality according to the divine plan. In Genesis chapters 1 – 3 we see that Man and Woman were created in the divine image, i.e. in the image and likeness of God, Genesis 1:26 – 27.

So please, pull out your Knights of Columbus membership card again, and ask yourself once more – how can you heed the call to action!

Let us stand together in this mission of nurturing a culture of life and lets work together for a culture of life.

God Bless,
Hector Garcia
Culture of Life Director

40 Cans for Lent

All Brothers are reminded to please bring their donations to the 40 Cans for Lent program to the April business meeting. As a reminder, the proceeds will first be used to assist any of our Brother Knights and their families who are in need. The remainder will be donated to the food closet at the Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home.

Pasta 4 Life Wrap-Up

A big thank you to everyone who helped make last month’s 3rd annual Pasta 4 Life dinner our most successful one ever. With almost 200 people in attendance, we quite literally sold out the hall! Special thanks to Johnny Waldron and his crew for preparing another delicious dinner, as well as to all the Brother Knights too numerous to name who helped with set up, cleanup, ticket sales, and simply helping us get the word out in the community.

Thanks to this true team effort, we will be able to donate $1,500 each to the Sacramento Life Center and the Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home. In addition, the proceeds from the March business meeting dinner will be added to this total.
