I must personally say that it was a pleasure to see a larger number of guests for our annual tradition. I hope you enjoyed the meal as much as I enjoyed preparing it; but I’m already working on tweaking it for next year. First of all, I want to thank everyone who attended; and also want to apologize for the broccoli being cold. However, I also want to send a personal thanks to all the folks who helped out:
PGK Al Piccardo who, with my girlfriend Stefanie, was one of the three points for my “Assembly Line” plating;
PSD Dick Cutting, for handling the door, in addition to helping PGKs Dale Edwards & Alex Kachmar in helping
serve in the dining room;
…and Brother Terry Corcoran for both Tending Bar and handling the clean up.
I look forward to chairing this “Fun Raising” event again for an 11th year.

Grand Knight’s Message, February 2014
To my brother knights & their families,
Our Crab Feed was held on Saturday January 18th. This is one of our big fund raisers. Many thanks to all who helped prepare the food, serve the food, sold raffle tickets and helped cleaned. Also thanks to all who brought friends and family to the dinner and purchased raffle tickets. A special thank you to Al Piccardo who not only chaired the dinner but also brought many people to the dinner and solicited many of the raffle prizes. This was the second major fund raiser that Al has chaired in two months.
Ladies Night on February 20th is a great opportunity for us to treat the special women in our lives to a very special fun filled evening. In case anyone forgets Valentine’s Day, here is your chance for redemption. Please contact PGK Matt Lucien at (916)382-9727 for reservations or leave a message on the hall phone at 916-736-0953.
This year’s Pasta Dinner will be held on Thursday February 27. This is a fund-raiser to benefit the Sacramento Life Center and the Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home. For reservations or to volunteer to help out please call: PGK Ricardo Saldaña (916) 712‐7355 or leave a message on the hall phone at 916-736-0953.
Please consider wearing your Knights of Columbus name badge when you are at church, especially when you are volunteering your time. This also includes when you are helping out at the school if your parish has one. This is a great opportunity for the members of your church to see the Knights of Columbus in action. Perhaps you might pique the interest of a potential candidate for our order.
Thank you.

Grand Knight’s Message, December 2013
To My Brother Knights and Their Families:
During this time of the year, as we prepare for the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we must remember that it is not the festive season that is portrayed by the world around us. For us as Christians, it is a time of preparation and reflection. Our focus needs to be on preparing for the birth of Christ. At this time of the year we should be spending extra time in prayer, fasting, and charity. Attend extra church services, have a meatless meal once or more each week. Remember the first principle of the Order, charity. Try to limit the celebration until Christmas Eve.
The celebration of Christmas for us begins on Christmas Eve and lasts until January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany. When Christmas arrives keep the celebration going for the entire 12 days. Make the feast of Epiphany a special celebration in your home. We had a very successful Shrimp Dinner last month. We raised over $3,200. Many thanks to Al Picardo and all who helped out with the dinner. Further information about the dinner will follow.
Thank you.

Grand Knight Council 953
Memorial Service Held at St George Catholic Church
On Sunday November 3, Council 953’s annual memorial mass was held at St. George Parish to pray for our Brother Knights who fell asleep in the Lord this year. Fr. Brendan McAnerney, pastor of St. George and Council 953 chaplain, presided over the liturgy and memorial service that followed. Several members of 953 came to pray for the repose of the souls of Rev. John J. Folmer, Steven J. Fusick, Jr., Carl Apostolo, Don Nagel, Harold Hill and PGK Carl Pernichr.
Where’s John?
In the month of October, our DGK John Sheldon was absent from our business meeting, but with good reason. He and his Mother were on a pilgrimage, taking in Santiago de Compostela, Fatima, Lisbon, Rome, and parts of Southern Italy. To make up for his absence, he proudly wore 953 shirt in Santiago on the 10th, and later in Rome while touring the Vatican Museum. The trip was tiring, but spiritually rewarding, praying
at the remains of three apostles, along with numerous other saints. Reflecting on the many intentions that he carried for others. He looks forward to returning to Spain / France in a few years to walk the Way of St. James.
Knight of the Month – November 2013
He is our Hall bartender and our Health Director. He helps out at nearly every event that is held at the council. He has been the chairman for German Night for several years. It is because of him that German Night is always a great success. The Knight of the month for the November is Tom Nulk.
