Knights of the Month March 2012

Knights of the Month March 2012

We had two Knights of the Month for March, George Mills and Matthew Lucien

George Mills Knight of the Month March 2012
George Mills Knight of the Month

This Knight has been described as “very reliable”. He seems to help with almost every events/project that our council is involved in. He has always said yes when asked to help. If you didn’t see him setting up for anyone of our councils events, by getting raffle prizes, or serving your meals, it was probably because he was attending it as a paying guest. He was a huge assistance to Brother Dominic and myself with past Chili Cook-Offs.

He is an RCIA instructor at St. Mary Parish and also organized a Walk for Life bus from said parish. He has served our council for approx 9 years and is a 4th degree Sir Knight and member of our color core.
His past and current designations include past grand knight, Sir Knight, zippy bun chairman, current financial secretary and is a member of our 1st degree team. He has been a huge help as a resource -to me personally during my tenure as Grand Knight. He is non other than Sir Knight George Mills.

Matthew Lucien Knight of the Month March 2012
Matthew Lucien Knight of the Month

This next Knight is not to be overshadowed by our co- Knight of the month. One Knight said it best by stating that this Brother Knight is “stoutly”. The definition being: having or marked by boldness, bravery, firm and resolute. Solid or substantial. I couldn’t agree more.

Since joining our council back in 2000, This Brother Knight has held many designations with our council PGK, 4 term Former District Deputy, 4th degree Sir Knight, current community director, and is part of our 1st and second degree teams, sometimes- like today DGK stand in.

Some Knights focus their charities or volunteer hours to only their home parish. Not this Knight. In fact, one of the biggest compliments i heard regarding this fellow Knight, is that he has ALWAYS supported multiple parish events and activities, regardless if they’re his home parish or not.
weather it was chairing ladies night for the umpteenth year (i can’t seem get a straight number out of anybody), or working the zippy bun booth, chili cook off, participating in the ID program or Wheelchair program, the list goes on and on.

It is with great pride to announce Sir Knight Matthew Lucien as co- Knights of the Month March 2012!

Lastly, I’d like to say thank you to all of you who help make the Knights of Columbus council 953 what it is today. To those who volunteer your time, your thoughts, your energy and love. It does not go unnoticed. This council could not be as great as it is, if it were not for the efforts of those Knights of the past or this current generation of Knights and Officers, doing what they do best… serving. It’s up to us to find tomorrow’s Knights, tomorrow’s Officers to help carry the principles of our organization and specifically, our council. Thank you to all of you past and present, and to tomorrows Knights, Welcome.

Health & Human Services Mandate – It’s not about contraception
You may have heard about this mandate that is being fought by our shepherds, the Bishops.  It is important for each of you to understand that the Bishops are not fighting this mandate because the Church has taught that there are better ways of regulating fertility than through contraception and sterilization.  The Bishops are fighting this because the mandate because it violates the religious liberty of all of us, Catholic or otherwise.
I hope you will spend some time to learn about by visiting www.usscb.org/conscience where you can find a number of resources as well as a very easy way to write to our representatives in Congress to protest this mandate.

Grand Knight’s Message February 2012

GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE

Hello my Worthy Brothers and family.

There’s so much to cover in this months GK message. First, let me start out by saying it gives me great excitement to announce that our general meeting dinners in March, April and May will be FREE! If successful, our council may budget for all the monthly dinners in the next Columbian year. Your attendance will show support for this new program.

Our second announcement is that the K of C council 953 will be sponsoring a Loaves and Fishes hot meal once a month. It will most likely be the last Friday of every month from 10 am – 1 pm, volunteers will be on a rotating schedule. All we need is two volunteers at a time. Knights, wives, family & friends are all encouraged to help. We understand that this falls on a workday and we pray that with plenty of notice some can go to work later, get off early, take an extended lunch or if able, perhaps take the day off. It’s only for 3 hours and it helps an organization that helps many in need. Loaves and Fishes is responsible for serving over 700 hot meals a day. That’s over 21,000 hot meals every month, all without government funding. Let’s get together and lend a helping hand to this charitable organization. This is a great opportunity for the K of C to make a public presence. Please contact me so we can start a rotation.

Our 3rd announcement is that our council will have a “Mexican Knight” in May. If you would like to help contribute or have thoughts on making this event a success, please contact Lewis Munoz. All proceeds will benefit the Newman Center student retreat program.

Lastly, I’d like to extend a sincere thank you to our co-Knights of the month: PGK Al Piccardo & Johnny Waldron. The annual Shrimp Feed and Crab Feed performed by these two Knights and their “crew” have been a staple on our council’s calendar as an event not to miss. Their past success- and no doubt, this year’s success- is but one reason to recognize these Brothers in our council………….Thank you!

Please also keep in mind that coming up this month will be:
Ladies Night on 2/16 and our ID Spaghetti Dinner on 2/18.

Have a Blessed Month!

Your Grand Knight Council 953
