Investment Growth and Security is Everyone’s Goal!

In 2008, after the stock market peaked then crashed, many investors who had 401K’s, IRA’s, ROTH’s, and other types of retirement accounts asked themselves- Why didn’t I move some of my money out of stocks and mutual funds to protect it from loses before the crash? They had seen from their statements that their accounts had grown substantially. They hoped the accounts would continue to grow, only to see losses. What did they learn?

For those who set up IRA’s, ROTH’s and annuities with the Knights of Columbus before 2011, there is an option to rollover some or all of your investment profits to those KofC accounts that guarantee 3% or more. Not only are you receiving “Tax Deferred Growth” but there are no fees. Transferring your realized profits when the markets are up protects your gain and minimizes the effect when the markets go through another “correction”. You can feel comfortable your KofC annuity investment is secure because of the strength and knowledge of Knights of Columbus. The deposits you invest with the Knights of Columbus does not fluctuate with the stock or bond market. You gain “peace of mind” when you think about your Knights of Columbus accounts.

If you haven’t set up an account with the Knights of Columbus, why not explore the possibilities today? Though the Guaranteed Interest Rate is lower (1.5%) today than two years ago, we are still paying 2.50% on all new accounts. For as little as $300.00 initial deposit, a retirement account can be customized to meet your needs. If you are retiring soon, I can assist you with your retirement planning and explain how your Retirement Savings Plan works. Together we can maximize your benefits.

As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to helping you protect and grow your assets.

Culture of Life Report for September 2014

Brother Knights,
October is pro-life month in the Church, and my Brother Knights are invited to reflect on the threats to the dignity of the human person that exist in the world today. After gaining a deeper understanding of the issues that threaten the dignity of human life, we are challenged to work for change so that human life, in all its stages, will be recognized as a gift from God.

O Mary,
bright dawn of the new world,
Mother of the living,
to you do we entrust the cause of life:
Look down, O Mother,
upon the vast numbers
of babies not allowed to be born,
of the poor whose lives are made difficult,Love Life
of men and women
who are victims of brutal violence,
of the elderly and the sick killed
by indifference or out of misguided mercy.
Grant that all who believe in your Son
may proclaim the Gospel of life
with honesty and love
to the people of our time.
Obtain for them the grace
to accept that Gospel
as a gift ever new,
the joy of celebrating it with gratitude
throughout their lives and
the courage to bear witness to it
resolutely, in order to build,
together with all people of good will,
the civilization of truth and love,
to the praise and glory of God,
the Creator and lover of life.

God Bless,
Hector Garcia

Grand Knight’s Message, September 2014

To My Brother Knights and Their Families:

September marks many changes. The end of summer’s heat, we hope, and the easing into fall, especially with children returning to school. It also signifies our fraternal efforts shifting from outdoors to the confines of our hall. Yet, let us not forget all we accomplished under the sun. Council 953 donated 33 cases of water to Loaves and Fishes for the homeless and hungry. Special thanks to Dale for transporting the half-ton load to North C Street. Of course, summer would not be complete without Zippy Buns! Thank you Terry Corcoran and David Carboni for taking care of many hungry mouths at Saint Mary’s.

Our next focus is Mexican Knight. Given our increase fraternal charity, it is essential to help Brother Lewis make this event a success. He needs help with several key aspects for this event, so when we place the call, even an hour or two would be of great assistance. Even your Grand Knight is pitching in with several dozen fresh baked cookies to help sweeten the raffle.

Go! Make a difference…
John Sheldon
Grand Knight, Council 953

Knight and Family of the Month – August 2014

At the August business meeting, Michael McVean was named Knight of the Month for August in appreciation of his assistance with the St. Stephen’s Beer Booth and the Hall Board’s steak dinner. (pictured at left with GK John Sheldon)

In addition, the family of Brian McKrell was named Family of the Month. Brian organized our fun-filled council picnic in July and has made many other contributions in his role as Family Director.

On Sunday, August 17, St. Mary’s Parish held it’s 83rd annual parish festival. As always, members of Council 953 set up and operated the ever popular Zippy Bun Booth.

Many thanks to Terry Corcoran for chairing the booth this year, as well as to all who lent a hand.

Here are PGK Dale Edwards and GK John Sheldon delivering a half a pallet's worth of water (over half a ton), to Loaves and Fishes on August 15th.

Also in August, the Council received an urgent request from Loaves and Fishes for donations of bottled water to hand out to those they serve.

Many of our Brother Knights answered the call by providing cases of water, which the Council matched case-for-case. Thank you for everyone who made this possible!

St. John Vianney, Pray for Us.
